What's the Problem

Why Hardwood Ecosystem?

Without directly incentivizing the sustainable utilization of wood, including the protection of it, wood will continue to be cut down at unsustainable rates. Currently private landowners in Brazil alone, could harvest around 20 million hectares (the size of the United Kingdom) of wood legally. If this wood was harvested unsustainably (all at once), the amount of carbon dioxide released would surpass the 2015 emissions of all countries but China. In many places worldwide protecting wood through carbon credits has been ineffective as the intermediaries (government entities) have pocketed the money instead of distributing it to private landowners.

At the same time cryptocurrency investors have sought stablecoins to mitigate their risk of price fluctuations. These stablecoins have largely been gold backed. a nonrenewable and often not sustainable resource. The cryptocurrency community at large has been criticized for their environmental impact. Hardwood may be a solution to both these problems.
